The role of zeolite is to help boiling and prevent bumping. Because the surface of zeolite has micropores and air inside, it can help boiling. Overheating is a metastable state. When the temperature of the superheated liquid is much higher than the boiling point, the saturated vapor pressure in the small bubbles is higher than the outside pressure, so the bubbles grow rapidly and expand, and even cause the explosion of the industrial container due to rupture. The reason why the liquid overheats is the lack of a core that forms bubbles in the liquid. In order to remove the overheating phenomenon in the distillation process and ensure the steady state of boiling, zeolite or a capillary tube with one end sealed are often added, because they can prevent bumping during heating. They are called anti-riot agents and boiling aids. It is worth noting that the anti-riot agent should not be added when the liquid is boiling, as the solution will violently boil and the liquid will easily rush out of the bottle. If it is a flammable liquid, it will cause a fire. You have to wait for the boiling liquid to cool down before adding it. The used zeolite generally cannot be used anymore, because its micropores have been filled with or left with impurities, and the pores have become smaller or blocked and can no longer play a role in boosting boiling.
